San Francisco-based SuperAnnotate, a leading AI data management platform, has secured $36 million in a Series B funding round led by Socium Ventures. The round also saw participation from notable investors, including Nvidia, Databricks Ventures, and Play Time Ventures, bringing the company’s total funding to over $53 million.

Co-founded by brothers Vahan and Tigran Petrosyan, SuperAnnotate addresses one of AI’s most critical challenges: managing high-quality training datasets. With studies highlighting that data curation often outweighs dataset size in determining AI model performance, the demand for advanced dataset management tools has grown significantly.

The company initially focused on labeling software but has since evolved into a comprehensive, low-code platform for creating, fine-tuning, and evaluating AI datasets. SuperAnnotate’s platform allows users to connect data from local and cloud sources, collaborate with teams, compare model performance, and deploy models seamlessly across various environments.

“Our goal is to build a platform that fully adapts to enterprises’ evolving needs, offering extensive customization in data fine-tuning,” said CEO Vahan Petrosyan. “As organizations increasingly require specialized datasets for multimodal AI, SuperAnnotate aims to be the Swiss Army Knife of modern AI training data.”

SuperAnnotate serves a growing customer base of around 100 companies, including industry leaders like Databricks and Canva. In addition to its platform, the company provides access to a marketplace of crowd-sourced annotators to label and prepare datasets. Despite facing criticism regarding communication and pay for annotators during a rapid scaling phase, SuperAnnotate claims to have addressed these concerns by improving processes and platform interactions.

The newly raised capital will be used to expand SuperAnnotate’s team of 100 employees, enhance product R&D, and grow its customer base. The company remains competitive in a crowded market that includes players such as Scale AI, Weka, and Dataloop.

With this funding, SuperAnnotate is well-positioned to solidify its role as a pivotal player in the AI data management space, empowering enterprises to unlock the full potential of their AI models.
