Nordic Air Defence Raises €1.2M to Develop Independent, Cost-Effective Drone Defense Technology for Europe

Stockholm-based startup Nordic Air Defence has secured €1.2 million in a funding round led by Norway’s SNÖ Ventures, with additional participation from notable private investors, to advance its innovative drone defense platform.
Sweden’s defense tech innovator, Nordic Air Defence, announced it has raised €1.2 million to accelerate the development and deployment of its breakthrough drone interceptor platform, the Kreuger 100. This funding round, spearheaded by Norway’s SNÖ Ventures, also saw key contributions from strategic investors, including Noam Perski, who joins as a strategic advisor, and private backers such as Northzone co-founder Jörgen Bladh and Jan Gurander, former Deputy CEO and CFO of Volvo Group. Both Bladh and Gurander have also joined the board of Nordic Air Defence, investing in a personal capacity alongside existing board members.
The funding arrives shortly after Nordic Air Defence’s public launch in September 2024, when the company introduced its flagship Kreuger 100, a dual-use drone interceptor for both civil and military applications. Powered by advanced software-based control systems instead of traditional hardware, the Kreuger 100 aims to streamline drone interception at a fraction of the cost of current market solutions, positioning itself as an innovative, cost-effective defense solution for Europe.
Pioneering New Horizons in European Defense Technology
Karl Rosander, CEO and founder of Nordic Air Defence, emphasized that this investment would drive forward research, development, and airborne testing, helping to expedite the launch of the Kreuger 100. “This funding will fuel our mission to develop a new model for European defense technology that is efficient, accessible, and free from reliance on U.S. supply chains,” he said. “For Europe, it represents an essential shift toward technological independence and sovereignty.”
The funding will support the company’s continued focus on advanced R&D, as well as the expansion of its technical team. The Kreuger 100, the company’s flagship product, is designed to offer a 10x cost reduction compared to traditional defense tech interceptors and is entirely battery-operated, making it a sustainable option for modern security needs.
A New Paradigm for European Defense
With a team featuring experts from defense, drone, and tech leaders such as Palantir, SAAB, and Quantum Systems, Nordic Air Defence is positioning itself at the forefront of a much-needed transformation in Europe’s defense landscape. Rosander draws an analogy to the accelerated collaboration that produced the COVID-19 vaccine, emphasizing that a similar urgency must now be applied to European defense technology. “We’re here to disrupt a sector that has traditionally been slow and cost-heavy,” Rosander added. “By leveraging software to drive down costs and enhance flexibility, we’re creating a defense ecosystem that meets Europe’s unique needs.”
Strategic Backing from SNÖ Ventures
SNÖ Ventures, known for its commitment to disruptive, tech-driven startups, underscores the importance of building robust, sovereign European technology. Max Samuel, Partner at SNÖ Ventures, remarked, “The traditional defense sector is burdened by excessive costs and dependency on external suppliers. Nordic Air Defence exemplifies the kind of innovation Europe urgently needs—one that accelerates timelines, reduces costs, and establishes European independence in defense technology.”
Nordic Air Defence plans to leverage this strategic funding as a foundation for its anticipated seed round, aiming to expand its market presence and achieve further milestones in drone defense.
