Dutch Paytech OPP Secures UK EMI License to Expand Cross-Border Payment Solutions

London, United Kingdom, October 29, 2024 – Online Payment Platform (OPP), a Netherlands-based paytech specializing in payment services for marketplaces and platforms across Europe, has secured an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). This significant milestone allows OPP to further enhance its cross-border payment solutions and expand its product offering in the UK market.
Founded in 2011 and operational since 2013, OPP has developed a comprehensive suite of payment services that includes multi-split payments, dispute resolution, automated mediation, and an escrow solution. With this new EMI license, OPP is set to introduce a much-anticipated wallet solution. This feature will enable businesses to receive and store funds for future transactions, adding another layer of convenience and flexibility for platforms and marketplaces operating in both the UK and mainland Europe.
“We’re thrilled to take this next step in our growth journey,” said Maurice Jongmans, Non-Executive Board Member of OPP. “For more than a decade, we have been committed to supporting our partners with payment solutions that are tailored to the specific needs of platforms, marketplaces, trading merchants, and consumers. Our new wallet solution is a direct response to customer demand, and it aligns perfectly with our mission to help businesses unlock their full potential in an increasingly interconnected world.”
Steve Lavington, Commercial Director of OPP Ltd, echoed this enthusiasm: “This new EMI license opens up tremendous opportunities for UK platforms and marketplaces. Our unique payment platform, combined with the wallet solution, provides users with the ability to seamlessly manage funds and handle cross-border payments in multiple currencies. We’re excited about the road ahead, with 2025 already shaping up to be a year filled with growth and new opportunities across various verticals.”
OPP’s new UK-based operations complement its existing offices in London, where it employs over 100 staff, as well as in Berlin, Germany, and Delft in the Netherlands. The company has strategically positioned itself to play a pivotal role in facilitating cross-border payments, helping UK-based platforms expand into Europe while assisting European platforms entering the UK market.
Earlier this month, OPP also partnered with Worldline, a global leader in payment services, which acquired a 40% stake in the company in 2022. Together, OPP and Worldline have launched a new embedded payments solution that combines OPP’s cutting-edge technology with Worldline’s acquiring, acceptance, and point-of-sale (POS) capabilities. This turnkey solution is designed to streamline payment processes for users, allowing them to sign up, sell, and get paid quickly and efficiently across multiple currencies.
With its newly granted EMI license, OPP is poised to deliver a more seamless payment experience for businesses and consumers alike, further strengthening its position as a leader in payment solutions for platforms and marketplaces in Europe.
