Banca Sella Pioneers Accessible Banking with TQ Braille for the Visually Impaired

Banca Sella becomes the first financial institution in Italy and Europe to implement the innovative TQ Braille system, offering unprecedented accessibility for blind and visually impaired individuals.

Banca Sella has set a groundbreaking precedent in the banking industry by being the first in Italy and Europe to introduce the TQ Braille system, an innovative tactile identification device. Developed by Arti Grafiche Parini, a Piedmont-based company, this technology uses a QR code embedded in printed materials to provide blind and visually impaired individuals with access to crucial information about banking products, services, and other initiatives.

From October onward, Banca Sella will integrate TQ Braille technology into its printed communication materials. These materials, supported by the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired (UICI), feature a Braille-embossed frame that helps locate a QR code. When scanned, the QR code redirects users to a web page or document accessible via screen reader systems, including VoiceOver on iOS and TalkBack on Android. These systems read the content aloud, empowering blind and visually impaired individuals to independently explore Banca Sella’s offerings and make informed decisions.

With over 2 million blind and visually impaired people in Italy, accounting for 3.3% of the population, and nearly 30 million across Europe (4.1%), the adoption of this inclusive technology marks a significant step toward improving accessibility. The initiative aligns with the Sella Group’s strategic plan, Make an Impact, which emphasizes inclusivity, sustainability, and a customer-centric approach.

By introducing TQ Braille, Banca Sella aims to ensure that all customers, regardless of physical ability, have equal access to the information they need to manage their financial lives with confidence.
